The Poas Volcano is one of the world's largest geysers with an awesome crater, over 1.5 km. wide! The volcano is active, but completely safe for viewing. This tour begins with a beautiful drive through the lush coffee plantations and flower farms of the area.
We leave San Jose and pass the second largest city in Costa Rica, Alajuela on our way to Poas Volcano. We will see lush coffee fields and flower farms along the way.
Poas Volcano has an amazingly huge crater almost a mile wide! With a sulphure lake in the middle. It is actually a geyser – one of the world's largest. The volcano is in a national park in a cloudforest environment full of lush green vegetation and exotic birds. A trail through the park leads us to a peaceful lagoon where we will end our hike.
Recommended: sweater, camera, binoculars, comfortable shoes and rain coat.
First, you will go to Poas Volcano, one of
the most famous volcanoes due to its enormous crater. Then,
you will continue your journey; while your tour guide gives
you an overview of the tour, you will be able to stop for
photos at the picturesque La Paz and San Fernando waterfalls.
Once we arrive to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui,
we'll board the boat to discover the richness of Costa Rica's
nature along the river. The boat ride will last two hours,
time enough to witness the magnificent rain forest and its
habitants, such as toucans, monkeys, sloths, crocodiles and
many other species. At the end of this river adventure you
will come to a private farm to enjoy a home style lunch. Then,
you will be able to hike on one of the nature trails or explore
the surroundings on horseback. In the afternoon, before returning
to the city, you will enjoy the scenic view of the exuberant
Braulio Carrillo National Park, as you drive through this
spectacular park.
